Features and getting started
- Choose a root note, scale or chord to see note names and intervals. Tap to hear notes; zoom and pan to explore positions. Search and filter the chord library, switch fingerings, and play or strum chords.
- Explore major, natural minor, major and minor pentatonic, and blues scales with CAGED and three-notes-per-string (3NPS) positions.
- Choose standard, Drop D, half-step-down, DADGAD or custom tuning. Set a capo at frets 0–12, left-handed mode and string order. Tuning and capo settings change the sounding pitches.
- Practice finding and identifying notes, intervals, triads, chord progressions and target tones. Set a practice range and arrange and loop chord progressions.
- Ear-to-key practice: listen to built-in melodies, try notes on the fretboard, confirm pitches and narrow down possible keys. Use progressive hints and answer explanations when needed. This feature does not identify external music through the microphone.
- Review local practice history, retry mistakes and use spaced review. Save learning material in named bookmarks.
- In settings, choose rosewood, maple or minimal fretboard skins and change the app language. Available languages: Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, English, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, German, French, Italian and Arabic.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the app landscape only?
The fretboard and practice interface are designed for landscape use. Hold your device horizontally. JustFret requires iOS/iPadOS 17 or later.
What if there is no sound?
Check media volume and whether audio is routed to Bluetooth devices or headphones, then tap the fretboard again. Reopen the app if needed. Contact support if the issue persists.
Do I need internet access, an account or a microphone?
Learning and practice work offline without an account. The app does not access the microphone or record audio. This support website and sending email require internet access.
Why have note positions or the practice range changed?
Check tuning, capo, handedness, string order and practice range first. Also check your current instrument settings when restoring history or bookmarks.
Where are my practice records stored?
Practice history, bookmarks and preferences are stored on this device. Account and cloud sync are not currently available. Uninstalling may remove local data; avoid uninstalling as your first troubleshooting step.
